ASTM and ISO environmental standards are international guidance documents that validate that products, materials and systems are tested against uniform quality, safety, and performance criteria for use under various environmental conditions. ASTM standards are published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) as well as international standards published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
The ASTM and ISO standards on the environment offer guidelines in environmental testing processes in the industry to examine the performance of a product in circumstances of temperature, relative humidity, corrosion among other tests. Specified environmental standards allow manufacturers to take their products into consideration so that they could enhance product reliability, comply with the requirements, and eventually international trade with the help of the common testing criterion.
An environmental test chamber also known as a climatic test chamber, is a testing enclosure designed to replicate specific real-world conditions encountered with temperature, humidity, light, pressure, or climatic conditions, to assess a product or material's performance. Environmental test chambers are typically used in a variety of industries including aerospace, automotive, electronics, and pharmaceutical industries, and generally assist when determining quality and safety before products reach commerce.

ASTM D882 Official Procedure for Tensile Properties of Thin Plastic Sheeting.
ISO 9001 is a must for environmental test chambers because it ensures that the chamber is designed, manufactured and maintained in a way that it repeatedly provides accurate and reliable testing results. When the test chamber manufacturers with environmental test chambers follow ISO 9001, they would have to find out how to enhance their processes, minimize errors and fulfill the quality expectation of the customers. This gives the user confidence knowing that their product has been tested in a controlled and accurate environment, stable performance and safe product.
ISO 14001 is applicable to environmental test chambers, because it promotes a reduction in the environmental impact of manufacturers' production and testing processes. Environmental test chamber manufacturers can use an important system to manage energy consumption, waste reduction, and responsible handling of hazardous materials, which is the ISO 14001 standard. It seems like we should all want to produce and test in an environmentally-friendly way.
ASTM D638 is a primary standard test method for evaluating the tensile characteristics of plastic materials, while ASTM E8 is a method for evaluating the tensile characteristics of metallic materials. When paired with an environmental test chamber, this standard can also evaluate how plastic samples react to stretching forces when exposed to environmental factors such as heat, humidity, or ultraviolet radiation (UV). In the use of ASTM D638, manufacturers can obtain a good understanding of how strong and flexible plastics will be when in real-world applications.
When tested alongside environmental test chambers, ASTM E8 provides assessment data on how metals respond to stress and strain on volumes of material following exposure to environmental factors like fluctuations in temperature and/or corrosion. This test method is particularly important for any industry space where metal components must possess the mechanical integrity to endure extreme scenarios, regardless of elongation, corrosion, or conditions to the end-product, all while maintaining a safety standard within the users or the ultimate end-user.
For reliable environmental testing methods that comply with ASTM and ISO environmental test standards, Presto Enviro develops high-quality test chambers that create highly precise testing conditions. Our chambers allow manufacturers to accurately observe product performance due to temperature changes, humidity, and corrosion.
